Catholic. Naturalized as a United States citizen 18 December 1850. Odells 1850 Dayton Directory lists himas a confectioner; a 1861 census lists him as a farmer in Dereham, Canada. From November 1849 through November 1860 he was active in the purchase and sale of real estate in Ohio. His death occured shortly following his breaking a leg while cutting down a tree; his wife and five children then returned to Dayton. James and his father are believed, and his mother known to be buried in plot 39 owned by Redmond Sage. He had four brothers all of whom married in the US. There were at least 17 neices and nephews.
