Catholic. Completed formal education at St. Mary's College (later University of Dayton) at age 16, and entered his father's furniture business, Micheal Ohmer & Sons, where he was later active head. Inventor of streetcar fare register, perfected in 1893. In 1896/7 managing director of Register Recording Company, London, England but sold his interest in 1903. On 10 March 1904 he organized the Recording and Computing Machine Co, a manufacturer of war material during WWI (9,000 employees). Sometime owner of the Dayton Journal. His Gracemont estate was in Oakwood which is surrounded by Dayton. Died at 9:45 PM in his apartment at the Moraine Hotel of myocarditis and arterosclerosis from pnumonia and acute brochitis. Ohio death certificate #63657. Burial in Calvary Cemetary on 24 October. The 1920 census give his age as 59, his wife as 50 and his daughter as right. The entry shows two servents. |
