His wife,</span><br><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;"> Anna Margaretha Pfalzgraf, died at sea. Of the 412 passengers on that ship, 250 died! The story</span><br><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;"> is written in Annette Burgert's "Eighteenth Century Immigrants from the Northern Alsace". Also</span><br><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;"> a writeup in "The Palatine Immigrant", Winter 1990/91, page 180, incl a sketch of the ship.</span><br><br><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;"> Anna Margaretha's death at sea is quite well documented. "According to several records, including</span><br><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;"> those of the Oley Hill Church, Berks County, Anna Margaretha Pfalzgraf died at sea on the voyage</span><br><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;"> to America with her husband, Johann Jacob Kuntz, in 1738; she died in childbirth with an unnamed</span><br><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;"> child. The Alsatian (France) records show that all of Johann Jacob Kuntz's children were born in</span><br><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;"> Neiderbronn, Alsace, France, just over the border from Germany."</span><br><br><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;"> John George Paltzgraff first arrived in Philadelphia on 9-11-1732 on the ship &ldquo;Pennsylvania</span><br><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;"> Merchant&rdquo; along with John George Kuntz. This is our George and it seems to me that this is</span><br><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;"> evidence that these two families were closely connected.</span><br><br><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;"> John George Paltzgraff returned to Germany with his in-law, Phillip Emmert, to settle some</span><br><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;"> family business and they returned to Philadelphia on the ship &ldquo;St. Mark&rdquo; on 9-26-1741. His</span><br><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;"> name was spelled Pfalzgraf on the ship passenger list.</span><br><br><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;"> We know that our George was over 16 years of age in 1732 when he first arrived. If he was a</span><br><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;"> son of John Jacob and Greta, I believe he should have been born about 1690-1710. His wife was</span><br><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;"> Anna Maria Barbara Kamp(-en), baptized 10-6-1715, daughter of Kaspar Kamp and Anna</span><br><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;"> Catharina Franck. They immigrated between 1715 and 1717. I haven&rsquo;t found the record yet.</span><br><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;"> I don&rsquo;t know how old George was when he died. His will was probated in 1759.
