Three men were killed when two pickup trucks caught fire after a head-on collision Monday night in Schriever, State Police said.
State Police Troop C received a report of the crash around 6:27 p.m., spokesman Evan Harrell said.
Jordan Mayon, 19, of Houma, was traveling north on La. 24 at “a high rate of speed” when he failed to negotiate an S-curve at St. George Road and La. 24 and lost control of his 1998 Dodge Ram, Harrell said.
Mayon’s truck began rotating, crossed the median and overturned as it entered the southbound lane of La. 24, Harrell said. Kendric Prince, 30, of Patterson, was driving south in a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado when he struck the other pickup head-on.
Harrell said a fire erupted immediately after the crash. Both drivers and a passenger in Prince’s truck, Shannon Tassin, 54, of Reserve, were pronounced dead at the scene by the Terrebonne Coroner’s Office.
Impairment is unknown, and toxicology test results are pending, Harrell said.
The Schriever Volunteer Fire Department and Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene.
