Catholic. He is in the Speyer birth records on page 193. He was a master harnessmaker. The estate for his father in 1783 shows him as Johannes, age 18 years. The estate was settled on 23 September 1785 after the death of his mother. To equalize the distribution of assets he received compensation in the form of farm lands or French louis d'or in lieu of a home. He migrated to and married in Epinal, Alsace, France and all subsequent records show Jean Michel. His grandson, Jean Auguste was mayor of Epinal from May 1883 to May 1888. His brother Christophe, a farmer in Herxheim, Germany was a witness at the marriage. He was the progenitor of the French line of the Herxheim OHMERs. He had nine children but only six are included as descendants. The names of over 500 of his descendants and their relatives were provided by Pierre LECHRIST.
